Today was a whirlwind of activity. We started the day off with devotions: talking about how God wants us to be a good friend. We brainstormed what makes a good friend. Of course, "be nice" was the common theme. But I wanted the kids to unpack that, so we discussed what it really means to 'be nice'. Below you'll find a picture of some of our ideas on how to be nice.
Afterwards, we read a story called "We are in a Book" by Mo Willems. While reading the book, we talked about how there are three ways to read a book: reading the words, reading the pictures, and retelling the story. We took turns with me reading the words and the students reading the pictures. They loved the funny story and we read it TWICE because the students loved it so much!
We also started our literacy centers today. The students were in small groups and they rotated through stations: a play dough station where they had to form Aa and Bb using play dough, a magnet station where they wrote their name using magnetic letters, and an art station (we are making a surprise for you to see on Thursday when you come into the classroom for Parent Night- this surprise involved the students drawing self portraits.) While doing art, we talked about the importance of using pencil because we are able to erase pencil; markers cannot be erased.
In math we continued to explore math manipulatives: the coloured blocks. We also learned how to skywrite the number two. Please help your child to practice skywriting number two.
We had our first gym class today! The students came back smiling, so I can only imagine that they had an awesome time learning new games with Mr. Rigg.
Below are some pictures of what your beautiful children accomplished today! As you can tell, we accomplished a lot.
Reminders:
• If you haven't yet returned the pink field trip form, please do so ASAP
• Communication Books need to come back to school
• Blue homework duotangs need to come back to school every day please :)
• Tomorrow will be chapel. You are very welcome to join up at 8:45
Love,
Mrs. Marshall
