Today we continued to learn about how to be healthy. After reading a book called Gregory the Terrible Eater, we discussed what makes foods healthy and unhealthy. We then categorized our favourite foods into groups of healthy or unhealthy.
In Science, we continued to learn about owls. We learned that owls are nocturnal which means that they are awake during the night and asleep during the night. Reminders:
Welcome back to school! I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter break. Today we had the privilege of singing two worship songs for a group of pastors that came to the school for breakfast. One of the songs we sang has become our favourite worship song. You can find the youtube video below. I'm sure your kids would love to teach you the actions :) After putting on the worship song concert, we learned which two letters make the sound 'sh'.
Today we also started our unit of Healthy Living and our unit on Owls. We made lists of everything we think we know about both these topics and then we wrote down some questions we had about these topics. During Science, we made observations about owls based on different pictures of owls. They made some great observations, such as "they have big, cute eyes" or "they have long feathers". We also learned to make predictions about why the feathers are long and the eyes are so big. Here's the communication book message that came home today: Dear Mom and Dad, This week we are learning more diagraphs. For example, ch, th, sh, ck, and ng. Since there is no specific letter of the week we can bring in anything we would like for our show and tell days. As a reminder here are our show and tell days: Monday: Jeremy, Jase, Andrea, Callia Tuesday: Jesse, Olive, Annalise, Abinia Wednesday: Rishon, Ninos, Levi, Jacob Thursday: Bela, Angelique, Zachary, Joshua Friday: Jasmine, Liliya, Nathan, Yoka Memory Verse of the Week will be the same as last week: For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16. This week we are starting our units of Health, and on Owls. As part of our Health unit, we are going to look through magazines and newspapers to find pictures of food or exercise. If we have any only magazines or newspapers at home, could we please bring them into the class? Reminders:
Happy Easter! Enjoy the long weekend!
Reminders: • Order forms for our class book were sent home yesterday. We are getting a real book published! Please return these to me ASAP. • Two home reading books came home because it is the long weekend. Please help your kids practice these books and bring them back to school on Tuesday. Blessings, Mrs. Marshall We started the morning with Chapel where we learned about the story of Jesus death and resurrection. Later in class we talked about the death and resurrection again. We even did an object lesson using water and balls to demonstrate what happens when we let sin into our hearts and how Jesus washes us our hearts to be clean again.
We did two art projects today. One was a page for a class book that we are getting published. The second, is a piece of Easter art. We did the Easter art with our big buddy class. Reminders: • Book order forms came home today. These are so you can order a copy of the class book we are making. These are professional books and special keepsakes for later. • Class pictures came home today • The April calendar came home today as well. Check their backpacks :) • No school on Monday or Friday. Blessings, Mrs. Marshall We started the morning off by learning more about the Easter story. We talked about Jesus dying on the cross for our sins. The only way we can get to heaven is by believing in Jesus. I also did a trick with a piece of paper. here's a video of what I did (it's not me doing it - I just found a youtube video of a man doing the same object lesson). Here's a picture of the flannel graph story I did too. Later in the day we went to Letterland and learned about the sounds "ck" and "ng". Then we did Literacy Centres. Below are pictures of some of the centres we did. We then had play centres and gym.
After lunch, we had Math. We are learning how to determine which number is biggest. For example "Is 4 or 6 biggest?" Yesterday we collected various leaves and rocks from outside. Today, we made scientific observations about the things we collected. Reminders: • No school on Friday or Monday Blessings, Mrs. Marshall Welcome back after Spring Break! We learned and did a lot of different things today. We started the morning by talking about what we did on Spring Break. Wow! You had a lot of adventures :) I loved hearing about these adventures. Afterwards, we jumped right back into our Math groups. Today we learned about shapes: trapezoids, diamonds, and triangles. They especially likes saying the word trapezoid. We then did some Math enters. Photos can be found below. In Writing, we wrote in our journals about what we did over Spring Break. Then we headed outside to make some observations about Spring. We collected objects in bags and tomorrow we will look at these objects (flowers, grass, rocks), and analyze what we see. Scientists collects and analyze many different things. After lunch, we learned part of the Easter story: When Jesus was praying the in Garden and when Peter denied knowing Jesus. Here is a picture of the flannel graph. After Music with Miss Cheng, we did Literacy Centers and Play Centers. As you can see, it was a busy day.
Reminders: • New Home Reading books came home today. Please help your child practice their book and bring it back tomorrow. • The communication book came home today. Find it in their backpack :) • No school on Friday or Monday because of Easter. Blessings, Mrs. Marshall Happy Spring Break! Have a great two weeks off.
Here are some ways you can help your child with learning this spring break: • Get them to point out words that start with a certain letter. For example, say "Do you see any words that start with a D?" • Play dice games. Have them roll a dice and then write the number. Or have them roll and dice and then eat that amount of M&Ms. • Keep on reading :) You can never go wrong with reading! Blessings, Mrs. Marshall The highlight from the day was watching the Grade 1 class perform a Reader's Theatre Play about Tacky the Penguin.
Some other highlights include: • Math games • Journal writing about what we are going to do on Spring Break • Singing worship songs Reminders • Scholastic book orders came home on Monday and are due back tomorrow. Blessings, Mrs. Marshall Highlights from the day:
• Dr. Ojis came to teach us about what it is like to be a medical doctor in the hospital. The students got to listen to my heart and their friends' hearts. We talked about how Jesus wants us to help other people and being a doctor is great way to help others when they are sick or hurt! • We did Math centres today which help us with number fluency and recognizing numbers at a glance. • Today was a very Writing heavy day. We wrote about doctors and what they do. We also started working on our class book about what we want to be when we grow up. Each of us are making our own page. After we have finished, we are going to get the book published!! Woohoo!! Reminders: • Spring break is coming soon! |
